141 anglers set their sights on Okhissa Lake and some pretty good prize money on April 26, 2008 in the first annual Casting for
Cash Big Bass Challenge sponsored by the Homochitto Heritage Club. Prize money was $2,000 for the catch of the day and
$1,000 for second place. That will buy a whole lot of lures and some pretty strong bragging rights! Congratulations to everyone
who participated. Mark your calendar for the first week of May, 2009...We'll be back!
In a last minute charge and
fishing without a trolling motor
Shane Mann of Roxie boated a
nice 6.01 lb bass to take home
first place and $2300!!!

We had a blast at the weigh-in.
HHC is a great host and the
Park Rangers are a friendly
group of people. A special
"thank you" to the Forest Service
for allowing us to have this event
on Okhissa.

We're already making plans and
looking forward to the 2nd
Annual Eddie's Marine and
Tackle Okhissa Lake Big Bass
Tournament. Read on for the
rest results..

Shane Mann's trolling motor
went down during the final
weigh-period. Mann did not give
in. He drifted over a point made
a cast to an underwater log and
boated a nice 6.01 pound bass
to take first place with only 30
minutes left to fish. Mann took
home $2300 which included 1st
place for the final period.

Jerry Lee lead the event from
9a.m. till Shane knocked Lee's
fish down to 2nd place overall.
Lee's fish weighed 5.60 pounds
and netted him $1300.

Cliff Wheat, fishing from a 15
foot aluminum boat with a 25hp
kicker, landed 3rd place with a
5.00 pound bass. I really like it
when someone fishing from a
small rig like his wins some
bucks. Wheat took home $1100.

Doug Jordon weighed in a nice
over-the-slot 3.98 to take 4th
and Jordon won the 1st weigh
period for a total of $900.

Mitch Ortega placed 5th for $700
with a 3.72.

Buzz Craft placed 6th with a
2.62, the largest under-the-slot
weighed in. Remember the slot
at Okhissa Lake is 16 - 20
inches.

Chris Strong placed 7th with a
2.24, Warren Whitaker Jr place
8th and the final overall winner
in 9th place was Herman Wheat
with a 2.20 pound fish.
